The strength of the single component avoids the risk of distortion and ensures minimum loss of information when locked together.” Reduction in the number of components ensures that the arm is mounted directly to the arm collar rather than being mounted via an additional tube assembly. This increases the strength and also considerably reduces resonance throughout the arm. The wall thickness of the bearing assembly has been increased approximately three fold.

Hi-Fi Choice reviewers voted the LP12 'the most important hi-fi component ever sold in the UK' and The Absolute Sound ranked it.

All mounting and assembly holes are finished to the highest standards and where possible have been moved outside the central bearing area, ensuring a stress free assembly that will not distort once assembled into the main arm unit. The Linn Sondek LP12 (often shortened to Sondek or LP12) is a transcription turntable produced by Glasgow-based Linn Products, manufacturers of hi-fi, home theatre, and multi-room audio systems. Its name is derived from the 12' vinyl LP (long play gramophone record). This improves the fit between the bearings and the housing which ensures minimum friction. The improvements we have made over the original Ekos tonearm include machining the bearing mating surfaces to an even higher tolerance and better surface finish. The horizontal bearing housing has undergone extensive modification, however the primary engineering goals have remained the same the bearing assembly must be very rigid, resonance free, temperature stable and free from play whilst maintaining extremely low levels of friction. I'm going to give that a try in my WT clone as I hate cueing the thing manually using a rigid finger lift at present as it has such a low effective mass.“ DESIGN FOCUS ON THE EKOS SE BEARING HOUSING In the development of the Ekos SE virtually every component has changed, however we will focus on the bearing housing. And for what it's worth I love the idea of the string finger lift. There is the risk this design introduces vibration or removes the efficiency of the single point of contact bearing somewhat, so I was wondering if there was any merit in attempting a design which minimised the need for the hoist such as having the pivot angled at say, 45 degrees instead of 90, taking 'some' of the vertical load.? How valuable is the lack of side to side yaw vs the impact of the hoist wires do you think? if I've understood the the hoist wires correctly, they are there to support the 'thrust box' until load is introduced to the side bearing by the stylus drag, and also a job of reducing side to side rolling.

wondering if I should do some sort of fill, but it is very difficult to undo! Was this for damping or to increase / manage the effective mass? The reason I ask is that my WT copy has an aluminium/carbon arrow as an arm tube and it is unfilled (and very light) at present, whereas the WT arm is filled with sand or foam I think. Simply make the linn majik tone arms think audio mart Ekos se features a. the foam filling of (half) of the arm tube. Check the collar which does it features a new dealer to get it.

Since I last took a look I've read the (very good) manual and now have a much better understanding of the detail around the hoist / sideways unipivot and how that works which is really nicely done.
